UA Students Win Essay Contest

Two Ursuline freshmen wrote the winning essays in the Barnes & Noble Dallas and Plano My Favorite Teacher Contest. Carter Brannan wrote about Ursuline English teacher Gabrielle Merani and Valerie Wijeweera wrote about Terri LeBlanc at St. Joseph Catholic School. More.

Ursuline Senior Named Foot Locker Scholar Athlete
On April 16, Monet VanVoorhis was presented with a $20,000 scholarship from the Foot Locker Scholar Athletes Program, one of only 20 students from across the country to receive the award. More.

Newspaper Staff Attends Journalism Day
Members of The Bear Facts newspaper staff attended The Dallas Morning News High School Journalism Day and Competition on April 17. Congratulations to Jackie Elias ’14, who won first place in Graphics Portfolio. More.

Students Support Bishop’s Pro-Life Dinner
Ursuline students volunteered at the Bishop’s Pro-Life Dinner on Saturday, April 5, at the Irving Convention Center. In addition to night-of support, students made flowers out of baby washcloths, which were used to decorate the tables and later donated to mothers in need. More.

Reflections From Junior Ring Ceremony

Dad/Daughter Golf Tournament 4/26
The Ursuline Academy Dads Club is pleased to host the annual Dad/Daughter Golf Tournament at 9:30 a.m. this Saturday, April 26, at North Texas Golf Center. Sign up to attend now to be a part of this fun, noncompetitive event that is open to all abilities. Registration closes at noon on Friday. More.
 
  Celebrate the Arts at Ursuline
Annual Student Art Exhibition
Ursuline’s annual Fine Arts Exhibition begins Monday, April 28, on the Ursuline campus. Student artwork such as painting, drawing, photography, ceramics, fused glass, and more will be on display in both the FFC Atrium and in Haggar through Friday, May 9. More.

Spring Concert Series
The series of spring concerts featuring Ursuline and Jesuit student musicians begins Tuesday, April 29, with the Spring Band Concert at the Terry Center on the Jesuit campus. All concerts are free admission and begin at 7:00 p.m. More.
 

Athletics News
The Ursuline Tennis team won the TAPPS 1-5A District Tournament last week, and junior Courtenay Cavett won first place in singles in the District. All team entrants qualified for the state tournament, which is being held in Waco this week. Also competing last week were the Golfing Bears, who took second place at the Regionals Tournament. All-Region honors were earned by four UA golfers. Go Bears!
College Counseling Updates
College Choice Information for Seniors
Please remember that your daughter will need to send a final copy of her high school transcript to the college she plans to attend next year. She can let her College Counselor know where to send it by completing the College Choice survey on Naviance by May 7. More.

Admission and Scholarship Letters
As she receives her college admission and scholarship letters, please remind your senior daughter to bring copies to the College Counseling office. Individual scholarships and the cumulative amount awarded to the Class of 2014 will be listed in the graduation bulletin. Please contact your College Counselor with any questions.

Summer Experiential Learning and Academic Programs
The College Counseling Department is receiving information about exciting national and international summer experiential learning and academic programs. Some programs offer college credit. See a full listing on the Ursuline website.
Color Guard Tryouts Begin 5/5
Auditions for the 2014-15 Color Guard are May 5-8 from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. A workshop will be held Monday through Wednesday, with auditions on Thursday. Applications are due Friday, May 2. More.
